I recently learned about the San Gabriel River Trail, and I'm thinking of taking Amtrak to Union Station, metro to Azusa, and then riding it down to Seal Beach and riding back to Irvine. Going up to Azusa Canyon you can continue past where the trail ends to get some climbing feet if needed.
